Staff Bios

Robert Cervenka, M.D. Download/Print Dr. Cervenka's Bio

CervenkaJoining us after years in a group practice based in Manchester, NH, Dr. Cervenka provides a wide range of gynecological and obstetrical surgeries. He feels that everything boils down to one question, "Is it best for the patient?"

He happily resides in York Beach where he enjoys a short commute to work. His hobbies include swimming, creating stained glass windows, and playing golf. The Doc's steady hands and great precision have benefited him greatly on the golf course where he boasts a handicap of 4. Off the course he enjoys studying the mutual fund choices for the New Hampshire Easter Seals Society where he chairs the investment committee.

Dr. Cervenka received his B.S. from Emory University and went on to earn his M.D. at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine.

Annie Cox, CNM

We are happy to welcome Annie back to York Hospital!  Annie earned her B.S. degree from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL and went on to earn a degree in nursing from New Hampshire Technical College in Stratham, NH.  Annie was a nurse at the Birthing and Family Care center at York Hospital for a few years before deciding to further her education.  She went on to earn a Masters in Public Health with the Certified Nurse Midwifery Program at Boston University.  She has been providing care locally and is now happy to return to York Hospital! 

 

Jodi Demuth, CNM, MSN Download/Print Jodi Demuth's Bio

CervenkaJodi Demuth is an Ohio native who moved to Maine at the beginning of high school. Today she resides in Wells where she enjoys skiing and kayaking, but her favorite pastime is playing the role of grandma. Around the office she's notorious for having an overly developed sweet tooth. Jodi also has a special place in her heart for military families and finds working with them very rewarding.

Jodi received her B.S. from the University of New Hampshire and went on to compliment it with a M.S. from Pace University. She took her education a step further when she completed the Nurse Midwifery Certification Program at the Health Science Center in Brooklyn, NY. Jodi is an experienced and skilled midwife who enjoys participating in important milestones in women's lives.

Laura Detwiler, CNM, MSN Download/Print Laura Detwiler's Bio

CervenkaLaura Detwiler hails from Manchester, NH but has spent most of her life in and around the seacoast. She's a skilled and passionate midwife with three children of her own. She first became interested in midwifery in college when she read a book describing different childbirth traditions around the world. Eventually she decided to pursue a career in midwifery because it fit with her philosophy that "women's bodies know innately how to give birth, but midwives are needed to support and guide a woman in their efforts."

Laura attended Bates College in Maine where she received her B.A. She then went on to pursue her B.S.N. at The Columbia University School of Nursing. Laura eventually received her M.S. in the Nurse-Midwifery Program at the University of Rhode Island. Laura says the best thing about her job is seeing patients return each year for their annual, as their families grow, and their children become older.

Catherine McLaughlin Hills, CNM, MSN Download/Print Catherine McLaughlin Hills's Bio

CervenkaCatherine is a Boulder, Colorado native who attended high school in Arlington, MA. When she's not picking blueberries on her farm, she and her husband enjoy exploring the open road on their vintage motorcycle. While Catherine doesn't mind driving, she feels much more at home in the comfort of the sidecar. She has always been interested in Mexican culture and averages two to three trips there a year. Her time in Mexico has helped her become conversational in Spanish and it has also allowed her to accumulate a fine collection of Mexican art.

Catherine received her B.S. from Pennsylvania State University and continued her education in nursing at Massachusetts General Hospital, in the Institute of Health Professions Graduate Program in Nursing. She then went on to receive her Nurse Midwifery Certification from the UCSF/SFGH Interdepartmental Nurse-Midwifery Education Program in San Francisco, CA.

Diana Okuniewski, D.O.

Dr. Okuniewski is one of the newest members of the YH OBGN team.  She received her B.A. in Biology from Kalamazoo College, in Kalamazoo, MI and her D.O. from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, in East Lansing, MI.  She was chief resident (Obstetrics & Gynecology) at Ingham Regional Medical Center at Michigan State University Statewide Campus, Lansing, MI.  She is excited to be a part of the practice and has a special interest in women's health, reproductive health and in-office procedures. 

 

Kent Scherr, M.D. Download/Print Dr. Scherr's Bio

CervenkaDr. Scherr is a family man who lives by his favorite motto, "do more, help more." His three children keep him busy, but he gets plenty of help from his wife who is a certified nurse midwife. When he is not working, Dr. Scherr loves to ski both downhill and cross country. He also dabbles in music and enjoys playing guitar for his kids as they are the only ones who seem to appreciate it. Dr. Scherr and his wife have spent significant time in New Zealand and both wear matching tribal neckpieces.

Dr. Scherr's pursuit to become a doctor took place at The University of North Dakota. He received his B.S. in Physical Therapy and went on to compliment it with an M.D. from The University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
